Stratfield Brake recreation ground,Kidlington, Oxfordshire

Ritetech are lighting the way for renewable energy withUK-manufactured solar powered bollards at Stratfield Brake sports ground.

Overview

Cherwell District Council came to Ritetech when they needed a solution to light a very dark footpath and car park at the Stratfield Brake sports ground in Kidlington.

A popular local sports facility, the site needed to remain safe for its users and guests, especially in the Winter months when natural daylight hours are limited.

Upon review of the site, it would have been costly to install a light fitting that required mains electric owing to limited access so a renewable energy source was considered the most effective option.

Product specification

Unlike many solar lighting products, this bollard from Solareye is designed and built in Britain for UK weather conditions.

Constructed to reach the highest vandal resistant rating this bollard is almost impossible to break.

It’s also certified IP68 waterproof making it ideal for flood prone areas.

The bollard light features an encapsulated 5V 5W efficiency monocrystalline solar panel with a grade ‘A’ solar cell.

    Results

After careful consideration of all the factors involved, Ritetech consulted one of our brand partners, Lakeside Group. They have over 30 years’ experience in the traffic, cycle and pedestrian safety industries and a history of product design, sourcing and accreditation.

Sixteen solar powered bollards were planted into the ground for even distribution of light along the footpath on the approach to the main car park.

    Conclusion

Liam Didcock, the Leisure Facilities Manager at CDC and his team were pleased with the results and residents and users of the recreation ground now report feeling much safer at night and in the winter months.

Cherwell District Council were a pleasure to work with and we look forward to working on more of their projects within our local areas.
